We all know the importance of a powerful headline. However, writing a great headline isn't as easy as it sounds.
An effective headline will literally force your potential customers to learn more. It will instantly ignite a certain emotion and intrigue them to read on.

In order to write an effective headline, you must learn how to use specific words to achieve a specific reaction.

Before writing your headline, you must first learn a little bit about the basic human motivators. According to psychologist Abraham Maslow, human behavior is always the result of one or more of five basic needs. He listed these needs in a sequence that he refers to as "the hierarchy of human needs."

He believes that until a less important need is met there won't be any desire to pursue a more important need. Below are the five human motivators, beginning with the basic needs and continuing to the most important needs.

Physiological - Basic human needs include hunger, thirst, shelter, clothing and sex.
Safety (Security) - Human need for physical, emotional and financial security.
Social (Affiliation) - Human need for love, affection, companionship and acceptance.
Esteem (Self Esteem) - Human need for achievement, recognition, attention and respect.
Self-actualization - Human need to reach their full potential.

When you are aware of the basic human needs, you can incorporate these needs into your writing. A great headline will appeal to your potential customers' emotions. You must feel their needs, wants and desires and write your headlines with passion and emotion.

When writing your headlines, keep in mind, you only have a few seconds to grab your potential customers' attention. If your headline doesn't immediately catch their attention, they'll simply move on and never return.

Headlines beginning with 'how to' are very successful, as the Internet is all about information. Internet users have a strong desire to learn. A headline beginning with 'how to' immediately grabs your potential customers' attention and forces them to read on.

Once you've determined the focus of your ebook, your next step will be to break your subject down into about 10 - 12 different areas. Each area will represent a chapter. For example, if your ebook is focusing on dog grooming, your chapters might look something like this:

Once you have created your chapter titles, you can begin writing each individual chapter. When you begin writing, keep in mind, reading on a computer screen is much more difficult than reading from paper. It not only causes eyestrain, but it is also a much slower read. With this in mind, keep your writing to the point and avoid any filler information that really isn't necessary. Provide your readers with all of the information required for each chapter, but keep it as simple as possible.

Write your text in small blocks and leave a space between each paragraph. Use an easy-to-read font such as Arial or Verdana and use black text on a white background. In addition, make sure you use plenty of white space. White space is the empty space between your paragraphs and around your text. You certainly don't want to overwhelm your readers with a solid page of black text. Not only does it look bad, but it certainly won't keep their interest.

It is very important that you do everything you can to make your readers as comfortable as possible. If your text is difficult to read, your readers will not only become frustrated, but it will also make your ebook appear to be unprofessional. Your ebook should be well organized and enable your readers to easily locate important information.

To spice up your ebook's appearance, you may want to add a colorful border, subject dividers and relevant images. In addition, enlarge your subtitles to enable your readers to easily recognize the beginning of each new section. By adding these extra touches to your ebook, you will not only improve your ebook's appearance, but it will also keep your reader interested.

Where to Break a Paragraph

The writing process is more than simply following a few rules. When it comes to deciding whether to break a paragraph, there are factors to consider beyond the "five sentences" rule that many of us unfortunately were taught in school. The length of a paragraph varies according to purpose, complexity, medium, intended audience, and information type.

Academic writing may consist of long paragraphs, even 250 words or more. This allows for depth of examination, thoroughness of argument, rich technical detail, and citation of multiple sources.
Newspaper columns are narrow, thus visually demand shorter paragraphs, typically 100 words or fewer. Often, the longer the article, the greater the variation of paragraph length.
Creative writing varies widely. A character's state of mind can be reflected by the use of long, wandering stream-of-consciousness paragraphs. In contrast, a fast-moving action scene may consist of a series of short paragraphs and one-line dialogue.
Online material frequently is composed of short simple sentences and short paragraphs. Bulleted lists are acceptable and often more effective in this medium than narrative paragraphs.
Business letters often are scanned lightly rather than read word-for-word, so short paragraphs are appropriate.
Writing for young audiences, particularly young adult fiction, demands a balance of short and longer paragraphs to capture the attention without condescension.
In almost any medium, one-sentence paragraphs can be used to draw particular emphasis.

When faced with a paragraph that feels either too long or too short, consider these questions.

* Is there a natural transition point in this process or narration?
* If the paragraph were read aloud, would the audience "hear" it end before it does on paper?
* Can some repeated ideas be struck?
* Does the audience expect all at precisely this moment?
* Can dialogue be used instead of description here?
* Could a "missing" statement be inserted to create the beginning of a new paragraph?
* What else does the reader need to know?
* Can this paragraph be attached to the previous/next paragraph?
* What would happen if the paragraph were eliminated?

When in doubt, let your personal writing style be the guide. James Joyce wrote incredibly long paragraphs; Ernest Hemingway's quick-firing dialogues sometimes read more like scripts. Yet both are revered.

Upgrade Notes

If you are upgrading from the 2.02 or 2.10 or 2.11 version of CoverFactory please follow this procedure:

Make sure CoverFactory is not running when you install a new version.

Install the new version of CoverFactory in a different folder from the previous version (this is automatically the default).


If you are upgrading from the 2.00 or 2.01 version of CoverFactory please follow this procedure:

Make sure CoverFactory is not running when you install a new version.

Install the new version of CoverFactory in a different folder from the previous version (this is automatically the default).

If you upgrade from 2.00 or 2.01, and want to load a project created with the old version, we recommend going to the Background tab and recreating the background (double click on "Image" under "Background Image" in the Properties listbox on the right of the screen). When you recreate the background, you can use the same settings as previously, it is the process of recreation that is important rather than the content of the background. Version 2.02/2.10/2.11 and later can produce much sharper images than previous versions: but it will only produce the sharpest possible image if the background is recreated in this way.
